The Discount Calculator is a free online tool that helps you calculate discounts and sale prices in seconds. Whether you are shopping during a sale, pricing a product, or checking how much you actually save, you can work out a discount from an original price, reverse a sale price back to the original, stack up to three sequential discounts, or add GST after a discount — all with live results in Indian ₹ formatting.
Savings = Original price × (Discount % ÷ 100)
Final price = Original price − Savings
For example, ₹1,000 at a 20% discount gives savings of ₹200 and a final price of ₹800.
Original price = Sale price ÷ (1 − Discount % ÷ 100)
Savings = Original price − Sale price
This only works when the discount is less than 100%. For example, ₹800 at a 20% discount gives an original price of ₹1,000.
Each discount is applied one after another on the remaining price, so they compound rather than simply add. The effective discount is:
Effective % = 1 − (1 − D₁/100) × (1 − D₂/100) × (1 − D₃/100)
For example, 20% then 10% on ₹1,000 gives ₹800 then ₹720 — an effective discount of 28%, not 30%.
Taxable amount = Original price − Discount
GST = Taxable amount × (GST rate ÷ 100)
Total = Taxable amount + GST
For CGST+SGST each component is half of GST; for IGST the full GST is a single component. The discount is always applied before GST.
A common mistake is to add sequential discount percentages together. Two 10% discounts do not make 20% off — they make 19% off, because the second 10% is taken from the already-reduced price. This calculator applies each discount in sequence and shows the true effective discount, so you always know exactly how much you are saving.
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage divided by 100 to get the savings, then subtract the savings from the original price to get the final price. For example, ₹1,000 at a 20% discount gives savings of ₹200 and a final price of ₹800.
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount percentage ÷ 100). For example, a sale price of ₹800 at a 20% discount gives an original price of ₹800 ÷ 0.8 = ₹1,000. This only works when the discount is less than 100%.
Sequential discounts are applied one after another on the remaining price, so they compound rather than add. The effective discount is 1 minus the product of (1 − each discount ÷ 100). For example, 20% then 10% gives an effective discount of 28%, not 30%.
In this calculator the discount is always applied before GST. The GST is calculated on the price after the discount has been deducted, which is the standard Indian GST treatment for discounts given at the time of supply.
